The DAF system works on the principle of floating oil, grease and other pollutants in wastewater with dissolved air. Air dissolved in water under pressure experiences a sudden pressure loss in the free environment and forms micro air bubbles. As these air bubbles move towards the surface, they also carry the pollutants in the wastewater upwards. Contaminants are removed from the system by means of a scraper on the surface.
